General Statement of Duties: Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of preventative maintenance duties in the upkeep and preservation of Town.
Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Repairs, installs, and/or replaces items as necessary, including irrigation systems, trees, benches / tables, signs, playground equipment, fencing, etc
Performs exterior maintenance duties for the parks, including mowing, aerating, trimming, raking leaves and clearing debris, planting and pruning shrubs, bushes and plants, etc.
Performs inspections on equipment and vehicles before use, to ensure proper fluid levels, good condition of hoses and belts, tire pressure, brake lights and related areas.
Secures, cleans and cares for all basic tools and equipment needed for job assignments.
May operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, front end loader and single and tandem axle dump truck.
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as appropriate and as needed.
Performs seasonal Public Works and Parks maintenance duties such as snow plowing, salting and sanding, removing snow and ice from sidewalks, steps, ramps, driveways and parking lots of Town facilities.
Observes all common safety practices.
Work on-call, overtime and holidays as needed by supervisor.
Assists in directing work on emergency projects, special tasks and daily work routines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of all equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and/or repair activities.
Working knowledge of all Public Works policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Working knowledge of common hazards and safety precautions necessary for public works operation. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, contractors, and the general public.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school diploma or GED required.
General knowledge of parks, streets, water, wastewater operations
Knowledge of and ability to operate large and small equipment
Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Class “B” driver’s license or be able to obtain within 1 year from date of hire.
Must possess certifications in Water Distribution (level 1) Class D Wastewater License or be able to obtain within 1 year from date of hire.
Physical WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position includes sitting, standing, walking, crouching, squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing, and balancing on a frequent to constant basis. Due to the physical nature of this position, sufficient physical stamina, mobility, and dexterity are required, as is the ability to hear and see to safely perform assigned tasks
Must be able to frequently lift and or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds.
Must be able to read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) before handling toxic or caustic chemicals or any other material requiring an MSDS.
Employees are frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, as work is most frequently performed outdoors. Employees may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, including moisture, humidity, and/or extreme temperatures, ranging from over 100 degrees to below zero degrees Fahrenheit.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vehicular traffic.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be very loud at times.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS • This position is subject to Town of LaSalle’s pre-employment screening process including, but not limited to Motor Vehicle background checks..
Pay Range: $15-$17 (depending upon qualifications)
Supervisor: Recreation Director – Sports & Athletics
This part-time position is responsible for the supervision of officials, coaches, volunteers, participants, the public, and recreation equipment in indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and facilities used by LaSalle Recreation. This employee must possess excellent verbal and written communication, good math skills, knowledge of athletic field markings, and the ability to perform minor repairs to athletic equipment on location. The position must be able to make decisions based on LaSalle Recreation policies and procedures which adhere to LaSalle Recreation’s philosophy, mission, and considering specific details of a situation without the Recreation Directors presence. This position’s work schedule and hours are varied based on seasonal activities and programming needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees and coordinates LaSalle Recreation soccer fields, ballfields, and school gym use during recreation games, contests, practices, and drop-in activities.
Knowledge and proper implementation of Weld RE-1 School District operational policies and procedures.
Maintain, issue, and be accountable for athletic equipment inventory and reports.
Convey good communication skills with the Recreation Director, staff, volunteers, parents, and the public.
Report maintenance, safety, and patron concerns or unusual situations to the Recreation Director.
Set up/take down procedures and its proper storage for recreation equipment.
Perform emergency procedures or provide first aid in emergency situations as necessary: First Aid must not be administered beyond level of training.
Knowledge of and implementation of the specific league Weather Guidelines during severe weather conditions.
Assist in resolving concerns and complaints from participants, coaches, staff, and the general public.
Evaluate facilities with Recreation Director for potential hazards, inadequate equipment, etc. for the purpose of implementing and/or assisting in making modifications or recommendations that ensures the safety of the participants and public.
Attend all league scheduled or recommended in-service training.
Obey and comply with all Town of LaSalle ordinances and policies.
Maintain positive public relations and rapport with program participants, coaches, volunteers, staff, and facility users
Perform general facility maintenance and custodial functions as necessary.
Assist in promoting clinics, camps, events, and programs offered by LaSalle Recreation.
Assist with the recreation equipment check-in/check-out process.
Perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
Understand and anticipate problems, enforce league policies and procedures.
Scoreboards, athletic field markings and facilities, and scorebooks.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to report to work as scheduled and notify the Recreation Director a minimum of 60 minutes in advance in case of an emergency or sickness and 48 hours in advance otherwise to allow the Director time to find a replacement to cover for the event.
Ability to carry our duties with minimum supervision.
Ability to work with diverse populations of varying ages and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED
Experience in recreational sports.
Knowledge of sports and prior supervisory experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or the ability to obtain these within 2 months of hire.
Noise level is usually moderate but can become loud during certain recreation activities.
Occasionally, position may experience stressful situations dealing with irate or hostile customers.
The employee works indoors and outdoors at a variety of playing sites throughout the LaSalle Recreation service area, and may include working at Weld RE-1 school facility.
Occasionally exposed to wet, cold, windy, sunny conditions and other variable outside weather conditions.
Moving/running participants and fast-moving sports equipment, and exposure to dirt, dust, and odors.
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, balance, kneel and twist.
Required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to finger, handle or feel.
Occasionally engage in a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, and squatting.
Must possess the ability to talk, hear, smell, maintain physical balance and physical control.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and possess physical mobility and agility.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to perform first aid and lifesaving skills and equipment to staff and patrons.
